Aiset is a Belgian leader in building energy data monitoring and analysis, expanding across several European countries, and part of the Alteo Group.

Building maintenance controllers need to enter and manage large volumes of data on-site, often in locations with poor or no network connectivity. Before BRAFT's solution, this meant paper forms, delayed uploads, and frequent data loss.

BRAFT's challenge was to bring that server-side intelligence onto the device itself, creating a smart mobile app for Android and iOS that works entirely offline and synchronizes automatically when connectivity returns.

The engineering challenge

Server-level processing. No server required.

Apps that handle large datasets, OCR, and complex search typically depend on a backend. BRAFT built the full pipeline to run locally on the phone.

The conventional approach

Data-heavy apps rely on servers

  • Complex queries and search indexing run on a backend
  • OCR and image processing are handled by cloud APIs
  • Data validation and business logic live server-side
  • No connectivity means no functionality

What BRAFT built

The full pipeline, on the device

  • Local database with thousands of equipment records, queryable in real time
  • Smart search runs entirely on-device: instant results, no API call
  • OCR pipeline processes meter images locally, no internet needed
  • Data validation and consistency logic run on the phone itself

Mobile application

Built for the field, not the office

A typical site visit looks like this: the controller arrives at a building with dozens of meters spread across multiple floors. They open the app, scan a QR code on the first meter, and the equipment record loads instantly from the local database. They take a photo of the meter display. The OCR reads the value automatically. They confirm, move to the next meter, and repeat.

The whole process takes seconds per meter instead of minutes. No paper, no manual transcription, no dependency on network coverage. When the controller leaves the building and the phone reconnects, all collected data syncs to the central database in the background.
